…..Aaaand SOLD.

This little potater has been so busy livin’ the corporate worker bee lifestyle and soaking up Special-Man-Friend-Time before he runs all over the country extinguishing fires – that she’s neglected her ol’ home suite home. Apparently, if you don’t update your blog with content, it doesn’t get updated.

Who knew.

But as fire season commences, so does my ample idle time – and it’s a good thing because I’ve got ideas oozing from my pores.  Yeah. That’s right. Oozing.

Toothpaste For Dinner.

And there’s no motivator like a Suite Potato sale! This little guy went home to a new family this week and we’ve got to begin restoring a new piece to occupy its space! Oh, the possibilities!

So watch this space. For realsies. Watch it.

I See An Ugly Sofa and I Want To Paint It Black.

I think that’s the second time I’ve used a Rolling Stone song for an interior design pun. Ol’ Mr. Jagger is probably rolling in his grave right about now.

What? Still alive?

I kid you, Mick. I kid.

But seriously. Let’s talk about painted furniture. And I really mean painted furniture.

I first researched this option this past summer when I bought these fellas and was trying to think of a time and cost saving alternative to re-upholstery.

And then last week I spotted this before and after gem on Design Sponge.

Stella of Mon Petit Studio commandeered this fabulous sofa for $25 and after reading about the fabric painting situation online, she gave it a whirl.

(First she taped off the woodwork.)

Using a combination of black flat latex paint and Delta Ceramcoat Textile Medium (an additive keeps acrylic/latex paint flexible enough to use to paint a couch, without all of it just flaking off) she got to work with a paintbrush!

And voila! Is that incredible or is that incredible?

Apparently, it feels pretty damn good too.

Stella, girl. You got style. I’m going to copycat you. And you’re going to like it. Or your going to hate it. Or you’ll feel ambivalent about it.

Read the detailed how-to guide here.

Over and out.

Alright. I Suppose You’ve Waited Long Enough.

Do you know what day it is?

It’s announcement day.

Suite Potato announcement day.

After months of sanding, stapling, upholstering, paint spilling, Excel spreadsheeting,,,,

We’ve got ourselves a shop front!

Thanks to the lovely, clever minds at Forget Me Not Antiques in Hyde Park, Suite Potato has a cozy new home!

Located in the lower level of Forget Me Not’s, Suite Potato is slowly staking its ground as one by one, pieces reach completion.

Best of all? We have our very own private studio space! No more clearing the sawdust and blurring the lines between work space and living space. (I think I hear my landlord rejoicing in the distance).

More before and after space renovation pictures to come as I continue to build my inventory, brand and aesthetic.

You know when one good omen can change the entire scope of a project?

Well last week (immediately after opening) I sold my first in-store pieces.

Yeah. That’s right.

Peek-a-Boo Dresser

Well friends, it’s complete. So let’s review.

Sanded…

Primed, painted, contemplated, contemplated, contemplated….

Then I painted again, and again. Then i took a sander to the edges like I was mad at it.

The base paint used was semi-gloss black and several top coats of black chalk paint were applied to the front of the dresser drawers.

Chalk paint is primed by smearing chalk across newly painted surface and then wiped clean with soap and water. Then let the chalking commence!

You see that? That’s attention to detail, baby. We’re talkin’ patterned lined drawers. Scented patterned lined drawers. You’re welcome.

Oh, and peek-a-boo. The sides were painted using a pale turquoise milk paint.

Viola.

And there you have it.

Earn Your Stripes.

I’ve had this table for months and I saw its potential from the very beginning but only recently conjured up the follow-through with my mission.

Sitting not-so-pretty atop an old bath mat once upon a time while I debated my options.

So I sanded down the little guy and gave him a smooth little primer coat, tightened the loose legs and then painted that sucker black!

But I didn’t stop there. No, I didn’t stop there. He called out to me.

“Give me stripes!” he whaled. “STRIPES!”

So I did. I gave him stripes.

Bold white Beetle Juice stripes.

And the table was happy.

Thinking Inside The Box.

Spreadluv

Sure, it’s easy enough to transform your “office” into a swanky, styled-out haven suited for a King (…or a CEO) but can it be done to a cubicle?

I’ve recently re-entered the professional workforce via Corporate America and have begun to settle into my comfortable cubicle situation. I’ve got my seat adjusted just the way I like it and have organized my stationary tools to be perfectly accessible to my left-handedness and now I think it’s time to get down to the knitty-gritty (décor).

Naturally I went searching for inspiration online and though I didn’t find exactly what I was seeking, I did happen upon some creative spaces suggesting that even though they’re literally boxing us in, we’ll never really be boxed in. You know. Metaphorically.
